BLUEBIRD AWARE SHOP

COMING SOON

Disability-awareness products designed around real life.

Bluebird Aware is developing thoughtfully designed lanyards, custom communication cards and card holders to help people communicate non-visible physical disabilities, individual accessibility needs, communication preferences and the support they may need.

Our aim is to make these products available through free distribution, subsidised pricing and full-cost purchase, helping more people access an option that reflects their circumstances and individual needs. Income from full-cost purchases will help support free and subsidised distribution.

Simple products with a meaningful purpose

Every product is being developed to make it easier for someone to communicate what they may need without repeatedly having to explain or justify themselves. Custom communication cards can be made around individual accessibility needs and preferences.

Currently in development

Lanyards

A visible and recognisable way to indicate that someone may have a non-visible physical disability and could require understanding or support.

Custom communication cards

Custom-made around the individual to communicate their limitations, accessibility requirements and the support they may need simply, clearly and respectfully.

Card holders

Practical holders designed to keep important information protected, visible and easy to carry at events, venues and in everyday situations.

Designed to reach people in different circumstances

Cost should not automatically prevent someone from accessing a product that could help them communicate their needs. Bluebird Aware is developing a blended model that combines funded distribution with subsidised and full-cost options. Free or subsidised products are intended for people for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier.

Free distribution

Free products will be available for people for whom cost would otherwise be a barrier, supported through funding, sponsorships, partnerships and community distribution. Availability will depend on the funding and products available.

Subsidised availability

Reduced-cost options will be available for people who can contribute towards the cost but for whom paying the full amount would be a barrier.

Full-cost purchase

People who can pay the full cost will be able to purchase products directly. Full-cost purchases will support a more sustainable distribution model and help extend the future availability of free and subsidised products.

A respectful approach

You will not need to provide medical records or proof of diagnosis. No medical evidence or unnecessary medical information will be requested. We may ask about relevant accessibility and communication needs so that a custom-made card can reflect what would be helpful to you. Registering interest creates no obligation to order.

Built around the people who will use them

Individual needs

People experience disability differently. Our products should reflect the individual rather than assuming that one message works for everyone.

Accessible design

Readability, usability, comfort, dignity and ease of communication should inform every design decision.

Lived experience

Development should be informed by listening to people living with non-visible and fluctuating physical disabilities.
